Biography
Betty Byrnes, LCSW
Betty Byrnes, MSSA, is a licensed clinical social worker with over 40 years of experience. She received her master’s degree in psychiatric social work from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. Prior to this, she taught special education. It was this experience that awakened the desire to follow problems “up stream” and into social work.
Post graduate work with the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy provided a system’s dimension to earlier psychoanalytic training. Ms. Byrnes has applied theory and practice in many settings including inpatient psychiatric facilities, education systems, private practice, family service organizations, rural health care, home health, hospice, and private business. Ms. Byrnes recently retired from the Palliative Care team, Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center.
She has held roles in direct practice with individuals, families and children as well as provided clinical supervision, administration, and consultation. When asked how she has sustained work over decades, she states “we humans are endlessly fascinating and entertaining – I don’t want to miss anything.”
